According to the prevailing Coronavirus conditions, Canada has extended its COVID 19 travel restrictions for unnecessary and needless international and US travel until July 21.
Canadian government thinks that the travelers are at the risk of getting and spreading COVID 19 variants. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reported to have said that both countries are working closely and all the measures taken with respect to COVID are symmetrical and reciprocal between the two countries.
Trudeau acknowledged that the travel restrictions may be ‘frustrating’ for many people but such measures have to be implemented to protect the welfare of the state and till things get back to normalcy. He emphasized that the COVID is not yet over and his goal is to keep the Canadian community safe and healthy. Trudeau has also quarantined himself on his foreign travel return from the G7 summit.
Trudeau expressed the people’s desire to travel who are irritated and upset because they don’t seem to see things getting back to normal in near future. But as a promising and people’s government, we have been there for Canadians since always and forever and their protection is our foremost duty and right towards our citizens.
Immediately after the introduction of the vaccine, numerous wild conspiracy theories sprouted through social media and there occurred a wave of vaccine skepticism among the people who showed defensive behavior towards it. Trudeau added that Canada has yet to hit the target of getting 75% people vaccinated from the first dose and almost 20% people from the second dose before they start loosening up things because even a fully vaccinated individual can pass on COVID 19 to someone who is not vaccinated.
However, the government will soon announce how it plans to handle vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals anytime soon. For now, the priority is to take care of its own citizens but the government is trying to give full consideration of what it means for any traveler who is fully vaccinated and the implications it would have at our borders and for people who would otherwise be allowed to travel.
But primarily, for now, Canada has discouraged all non-essential travel and ensured that reopening doesn’t expose Canadians to undue risk. Canada is largely off-limits to US travelers. Tourism, leisure and casual visits are all forbidden. However, some exceptions do exist for family members, foreign workers and international students.
Stringent testing and quarantine measures are in place for travelers arriving by air and land. People arriving by air are required to quarantine for three nights in a government-authorized hotel in addition to the rest of the testing and quarantine requirements.
